Mission:

Our goal at Capitol Cane is to offer the double reed cane buyer the largest selection of cane from around the world. We try to source cane as close to the grower as possible and in many cases we have actually visited the producers. You will find cane here that you may not find elsewhere or that at best, is not widely available. We are continually searching for sources of quality cane and will be adding new products periodically. You may even see some more of the “standard brands” in the future. We are starting out with oboe and english horn cane and will soon follow up with the rest of the oboe family and bassoon cane.

Unique Approach:

We understand that reedmaking is all about controlling the variables. With that in mind, we have re-thought traditional processed cane offerings and have put our unique spin on it. Our premium line of processed cane is no longer offered in diameter ranges. We carefully sort and process the cane into discrete diameters. For example, for our gouged oboe cane, your choices are not 10.0 - 10.5 mm or 10.5 - 11.0 mm. You actually have the choice of 10.0, 10.25, 10.5, 10.75 or 11.0 mm pieces so you cane purchase the exact diameter that works best for you. Less variability in your cane means less variability in your reeds, saving time, money and headaches.

More Choices:

Our large variety of cane is only the beginning of the many choices offered. Unlike most other cane vendors, we offer a choice of gouges for our oboe cane. Another way to get ahold of those pesky variables. We also offer a wide range of samplers giving you the opportunity to purchase small quantities of multiple versions of items so you can easily test them to see what works best for you.

Another one of our goals is to try our best to demystify this black magic that we call reedmaking. Throughout this site we have included information on our cane and cane processing. There is even a buying guide to help you with the process. Most of this information you will not find anywhere else. We highly recommend you take time to explore the entire site.
